A bilateral, progressive eye disorder caused when abnormal new blood vessels break and leak fluid or blood into a part of the retina called the macular, causing it to become ‘wet’. The disease happens in older persons and is the leading cause for vision loss in people over the age of 60. Patients with AMD gradually lose central vision but still have perfect peripheral vision. They experience a blind spot in their central vision and fuzzy, shadowy, or distorted vision.
