A primary visual system that receives direct visual information from the back of the eye, i.e., the retina, through one or more accessory optic tracts that are responsible for visual-vestibular interaction. It processes information about the direction and speed of movement of large textured visual world components. The AOS initiates compensatory eye motions to steady images in the retina during slow visual field motion.
