A serious, painful, and potentially fatal bacterial disease that attacks the nervous system causing the tightening of the body’s muscles, particularly the neck and jaw. The disease is spread through a cut, with the spores of the bacterium Clostridium tetani. A vaccine exists to help prevent infection but it has no cure. A person suffering from tetanus can lose their ability to breathe, leading to death.
