A small device usually made of a material that slowly breaks down and is assimilated by the body. It is used to block tear duct drainage and can last in the eye for defined periods ranging from several days to a few months. The devices are often used to ensure the eyes are moist following refractive surgery or as a trial measure to determine whether punctal plugs can help to relieve dry eye.
