Inflammation of the cornea marked by scattered, fine, punctate corneal epithelial damage, which can be seen on a slit lamp. Symptoms are non-specific and include lacrimation, foreign body sensation, burning, redness, and photophobia. It is caused by trachoma, blepharitis, chemical burns, ultraviolet radiation, keratoconjunctivitis sicca, viral conjunctivitis, peripheral facial nerve palsy, contact lens overwear, systemic drugs, and topical drugs.
