It is bleeding under the conjunctiva, which appears as a red spot in the eye. It occurs due to a broken vessel resulting from hypertension, straining, forceful rubbing, severe/sudden sneeze or cough, heavy lifting, vomiting, or a side effect of blood thinners and eye surgery.
