The thinning of the uvea and the sclera which manifests as a bluish-black bulge/enlargement on the front of the eye. It can occur as a response to injury, scleral infection, or due to change in intraocular pressure. There are two types of staphyloma: posterior, which is congenital or myopic, and anterior, which is inflammatory/infectious.
