A chronic, inflammatory, autoimmune disease mostly affecting the tears and glands as well as other body parts, especially in older, arthritic women. It is marked by a dry nasal passage, dry mucous membranes (especially eyes and mouth), and tissue being infiltrated by lymphocytes. The syndrome is related to rheumatoid arthritis and keratoconjunctivitis sicca.
