A negative deflection of the cornea elicited in the dark-adapted eye, on the electroretinogram. It is a negative-going response that exhibits more sensitivity than the b-wave and saturates at a lower light level. It reflects the activity of the proximal retina, i.e., amacrine and ganglion cells.
