These are flat, dark, and irregularly-shaped marks found either on the nape of the neck, between the eyebrows or above the eyelids of newborns. These marks are caused by capillary dilations and occur in a third of newborns. Salmon patches are non-cancerous and usually don’t grow in size, but rather disappear on their own over time.
