A retinal disorder where the neurosensory retina, splits from the supporting retinal pigment epithelium underneath. It is caused by a retinal defect such as a break, tear, or hole, which facilitates fluid accumulation in the subretinal space between the two layers. It is one of the significant emergency indications in ophthalmology.
