A measure of the change in the direction of a ray of light traveling from one medium to another. It is a material property that indicates how the material influences the speed of light passing through it. This is a critical factor in the case of ocular implants. Index of Refraction (n) is equivalent to the velocity of light (c) in a vacuum, divided by to the velocity of light (v) in a material (n = c/v).
