The first visual cortical processing stage. It's the region of the brain with the complete visual field map used by the eyes. Visual information from the retinas is received, integrated and processed in this area and the output sent to other cortical visual areas. It's situated in the brain's rear region in the occipital lobe, in each of the cerebral hemispheres.
