A treatment that uses light together with a drug (photosensitizing agent) to target and destroy cancerous and precancerous cells after light activation. The photosensitizing agents are not toxic until they are activated by the light emitted from a laser. Different photosensitizing agents are used to treat a variety of diseases, including several forms of cancer, AMD and acne.
