Hereditary or acquired disorders involving damage to the optic nerve from any cause. Some symptoms include decreased central field vision, loss of peripheral vision, and vision-field defects. This inflammation is caused by an infection or nerve disease and can cause pain with eye movement, blurry vision, and temporary vision loss. The presence of this disorder is the first sign of multiple sclerosis (MS).
