A tear or break in the macula that can cause wavy or distorted vision, that occurs in people over 60 years old. It is a defect of the foveal retina which occurs in three stages; foveal detachments (stage I), partial-thickness holes (stage II), and full-thickness holes (stage III) with central, detailed vision lost in the third stage.
