An X-linked hereditary mitochondrial condition affecting young males (15-25 years) and characterized by vision loss with dilated vessels, telangiectatic microangiopathy, and disc swelling/redness. The visual field is only limited to 20 degrees or less for the better-performing eye. Symptoms progress from mild loss of unilateral vision to severe bilateral vision loss (worse than 20/200).
