An irregular and jagged wound caused by the tearing of soft body tissue. It is usually the result of blunt trauma or injury with a sharp object. Severe lacerations can penetrate the full thickness of the skin into the inner tissues, muscle, bone and internal organs, including the eyes. Often, they are accompanied by significant pain and bleeding.
