A diagnostic tool or instrument used in interferometry which uses the waves interface phenomenon to measure the properties of more than two light beams. It analyzes the interference pattern formed when the two beams superimpose and it is used to measure the interference pattern of a light source from the surface being studied. Examples include the coherence scanning interferometer and the white-light scanning interferometer.
