A constant, involuntary oscillation (to-and-fro- movement) of one or both eyes that develops in early infancy (first six months of life) following an ocular abnormality. It is one of the three types of early-onset nystagmus whose etiology remains unknown, and it can be categorized into isolated or idiopathic in the absence of any associated systemic or ocular pathology.
