A state or condition where there is low oxygen in the body tissues, i.e., insufficient oxygen supply for normal life functions. It can occur with any interruption of normal respiration, such as in a flare or severe asthma attack. The condition can also be caused by lung and heart diseases, anemia, Cyanide poisoning, powerful drugs and other medications that hold back breathing.
