A group of disorders involving an overactive thyroid where the thyroid gland excessively secretes and synthesizes thyroid hormones (thyroxine) leading to thyrotoxicosis. The increased body metabolism can bring about an irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, loss of weight, fatigue, sweating and so on. It is associated with Graves’ disease (diffuse toxic goiter), toxic adenoma, and Plumer disease.
