A thin, transparent, delicate collagen layer that encloses the vitreous body of the eye, separating the vitreous humor from the rest of the eye. It is divided into anterior and posterior hyaloid membranes. The anterior membrane separates the front of the vitreous from the lens while the posterior segment separates the retina from the rear of the vitreous.
