A disorder where a person fails to be aware of objects to one side of space, i.e., the patient has a deficit of awareness and attention to one side of the visual field. It is a common and incapacitating condition, particularly as a consequence of a damaged hemisphere, usually the right one, following a stroke. The patient is often unaware of items to their left.
