An autoimmune abnormality characterized by an overactive thyroid gland leading to hyperthyroidism or the excess production of thyroid hormones. It is the most frequent cause of hyperthyroidism, which can result in proptosis, restricted ocular motility, elevated intraocular pressure and von Graefe's sign.
