The most abundant (predominant) neurotransmitter in the central nervous system (CNS), including the brain. It is active in all significant excitatory brain functions and accounts for over 90 percent of the brain’s synaptic connections. It transports nerve signals across a synapse by activating postsynaptic nerve receptors and its primary purpose is to convey information that controls brain growth and determines cellular survival.
