Supportive and most abundant cells in the central nervous system, which also provide structure to the nerve cells. They do not participate directly in electric signaling, are smaller than neurons, and lack axons and dendrites. Types include astrocytes, ependymal cells, microglia, oligodendrocytes, satellite cells, and Schwann cells.
