Paired, almond-shaped, and almond-sized tear gland that secretes most of the tear film's aqueous layer. It is a serous type of exocrine gland that produces lacrimal fluid on the corneal and conjunctival surfaces. It occupies a shallow depression in the anterior superotemporal orbit within the frontal bone's lacrimal fossa.
