Blood vessels that were once active but are now empty of blood, and which linger in the cornea even when the inflammatory condition that encouraged their development has regressed. They may terminate abruptly and cause a scar on the cornea. They should be distinguished from nerve fibers, which neither regress nor end abruptly.
