Nerve cells like those found in the retina's eighth layer with bodies outside the central nervous system. They convey information from retinal neurons to other parts of the brain. Two intermediate types of neurons (bipolar cells and amacrine cells) in the photoreceptors feed the ganglion cells with information about the visual world.
