Anomaly found in many conjunctival disorders including inflammation from bacteria, viruses, chlamydia and toxins, including topical medications. The acute disease is associated with viral or chlamydial infections, while the chronic condition may arise from chronic chlamydial, molluscum contagiosum infection, or inflammatory response to toxins and topical medications. It can cause periorbital pain, hyperemia, watery discharge, chemosis and photophobia.
