A chelating stain or agent which shines brightly in the presence of calcium ions but doesn’t stain as well as sodium fluorescein despite the similarities. It doesn’t work as well for soft contact lenses because of a larger molecular size. It is usually used as an indicator of lipid vesicle leakage and to test cell viability.
