An invasive, standard, routine, clinical test widely accepted as an assessment for evaporative dry eye disease. Sodium fluorescein solution is instilled in the external eye using standard fluorescein strips or reduced fluorescein solution volumes. The duration it takes for the tears to break-up is noted. A recording less than 10 seconds is considered marginal, while less than 5 seconds is suggestive of dry eye.
