The region of the visual cortex located next to the striate cortex, or the entire occipital lobe parts that surround the primary visual cortex. It constitutes multiple brain areas concerned with the processing of specific features of visual information and includes Broadmann regions 18 and 19 involved in defining the V2, V3, V4, and V5 areas. Damage to this cortex can lead to failure to recognize colors, objects, or movement of objects.
