A rare, devastating, serious complication of cataract extraction characterized by sudden bleeding from the retina and choroid, possibly forcing ocular tissue out of the wound. Intraocular pressure mounts resulting in the eye's contents hemorrhaging. It is more common in older people with hypertension or generalized arteriosclerosis.
