An adjunctive technique used to measure the degree of corneal tactile sensibility, which is an evaluation of the fifth cranial nerve. Both quantitative and qualitative methods are used to measure corneal touch threshold, but the most common is the qualitative use of a cotton-tipped applicator. The technique is useful in diagnosing ocular surface disease.
