It is backward displacement of the globe as a result of orbitalis muscle dysfunction or changes of the bone (orbit) compared to the orbital fat and the eyeball. It may be a congenital or acquired disorder caused by trauma, severe dehydration, or diseases such as Duane's syndrome, Horner's syndrome, Marfan syndrome, etc.
