The rupture of capillaries in the deeper retinal layers, particularly the outer plexiform and inner nuclear layers. The condition is associated with retinal vein occlusion, ocular ischemic syndrome, diabetic or hypertensive retinopathy and peripapillary hemorrhage in normal-tension glaucoma patients.
