Donnan Effect

It relates to the state of activity of charged particles (ions) in two solutions separated by a semipermeable membrane. The ions may be unevenly distributed on both sides of the membrane due to the presence of a differently charged substance (non-diffusible colloidal ion) on one side of the membrane.
