Diffraction

The slight bending of light passing through an aperture or around the contour of an obstacle. The degree of angle is determined by the relative size of the wavelength of light to the aperture or object size. Where the barrier or opening is closer to or equal in proportion to the wavelength of light, there is a significant amount of bending, easily noticeable with the naked eye.
