A common virus of the herpes family which affects people in all age groups. It is transmitted through body fluids, including breast milk, saliva, blood, urine and reproductive fluids. The virus can cause mild illness in healthy people and complications in immunocompromised individuals such as cytomegalovirus retinitis, a retinal disease.
