The innermost monolayer of cells which lines the cornea’s posterior surface and faces the eye’s anterior chamber. This flattened, mitochondria-rich layer is non-mitotic and is in direct contact with the aqueous humor. It is composed of one layer of hexagonal cells that do not generate.
