Eye movement that is in opposite directions of the head movement generated by cooperation between optokinetic (visual) reflexes and vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR). These reflexes restrict the speed at which retinal images slip between saccades. The eye movement is intended to stabilize an image on the retina.
