Poor visual acuity in the peripheral retina caused by peripheral lens aberrations, the arrangement of the photoreceptor array, and the Stiles-Crawford effect. An individual perceives the light going through the centre of the pupil as more intense compared to the light passing through the periphery of the pupil in the Stiles-Crawford effect.
