The brain’s base or lower part of the brain located between the cerebral hemisphere and cervical spinal cord. It is divided into the mesencephalon (midbrain), metencephalon (pons), and myelencephalon (medulla oblongata). The brain stem regulates cardiac and respiratory functions.
