A small area in the retina (optic disk) lacking in photoreceptors, causing an inability to detect images hence the blind spot. It is in the visual field corresponding to the position of the optic nerve head where the optic nerve emerges. An individual will not notice the blind spot with both eyes open because of an overlap of the eyes’ visual fields.
