An infection of the eye’s mucous membrane (bulbar/palpebral conjunctiva) characterized by a mucopurulent discharge. It is a common type of pink eye caused by a bacterial infection. Such bacteria include Haemophilus influenzae, Corynebacterium, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Moraxella species, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Haemophilus, and Staphylococcus aureus. The condition can be treated with a broad spectrum of antibiotics.
