The middle and thickest layer of a three-layered tear film responsible for warding off infection alongside washing away particles and lubricating the eye. Aqueous layer mostly comprises of water (aqueous), glucose, proteins (containing antibacterial properties), urea, glycoproteins, and inorganic salts.
