A spherical deformity of the anterior surface of the lens. This defect may be isolated or associated with Alport’s syndrome which is characterized by deafness, anterior polar cataract and haemorrhagic nephritis. Deformations may be observed in the red reflex where they appear as an ‘oil droplet’.
