A deficiency or malfunctioning of haemoglobin (found in red blood cells). A haemoglobin value of 13.5 gm/dl or less in males and 12.0 gm/dl and below in females is indicative of anemia. Failure by the haemoglobin to transport oxygen throughout the body results in low oxygen leading to fatigue and other symptoms. Anemia is a complication of leukaemia.
